American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics names Dr. George Zimmerman president — 5 highlights

American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics named George Zimmerman, MD, president of the organization, according Ledger-Enquirer.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Dr. Zimmerman is the 74th president.

 

2. With more than 34 years of orthopedic experience, Dr. Zimmerman is the chief of orthopedic surgery and director of total joint services at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga.

 

3. He also serves as the president of the St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute in Columbus.

 

4. Previously, Dr. Zimmerman was the chief of orthopedics at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Ga.

 

5. Comprised of nearly 2,000 practicing physicians, AOAO is the national association for osteopathic orthopedic surgeons.
