6 key notes on the biggest gainers in the US spine implant market

Spinal Tech

LDR could be the biggest gainer in the United States among spine device companies next year, according to an MDI report.

Here are five key notes about the market:

1. The spine market in the United States is improving as fewer people delay procedures and implant price stabilizes.

2. LDR will likely gain the most next year with its Mobi-C gaining FDA approval for one and two level artificial disc replacements. The Mobi-C is the only artificial disc to have FDA clearance for both one and two levels.

3. Artificial disc replacement will likely account for a larger share of total disc cases, according to the report, with spine surgeons expecting that to increase to 12 percent over the next year and 17 percent in five years.

4. The number of cervical artificial disc cases is expected to grow 20 percent in 2015 to 2016.

5. LDR plans to hire 50 to 70 direct representatives by the end of the year, which could add to share gains for the company.

6. NuVasive is also poised for a good year in 2016 as one of the top share gainers in the spine implant space.
