Zimmer Biomet receives FDA approval for 1st 3D printed titanium spinal implant: 4 points

With the rise in 3-D printed implants continuing, Zimmer Biomet earned FDA clearance for its Zyston Strut Open Titanium Interbody Spacer System.

Here are four points.

1. The Zyston Strut Open Titanium System is Zimmer Biomet’s first 3-D printed titanium spinal implant. It is available in various sizes to accommodate a range of patient anatomies and surgical approaches.

2. Zimmer Biomet designed the family of lumbar cages to improve the strength, graft capacity and visualization of the interbody spacer in spinal fusion procedures.

3. The Zyston Strut Open Titanium System also features surgical instruments for insertion, manipulation and removal of the implants.

4. “The system marks our first 3-D printed titanium spinal implant and adds to our comprehensive offering of lumbar spacers that are available in PEEK-Optima, Trabecular Metal Technology and allograft,” said Rebecca Whitney, general manager of Zimmer Biomet’s spine division.
