WVU Athletics names Dr. AJ Monseau team physician, medical director: 5 insights

Morgantown-based West Virginia University Athletics selected AJ Monseau, MD, to serve as head team physician and medical director, according to WVU Medicine.

Here are five insights:

 

1. Previously, Dr. Monseau served as team physician for WVU men’s basketball and USA wrestling at the 2016 Olympics.

 

2. In this role, Dr. Monseau will lead the university’s physicians in conjunction with the athletic training staff to provide injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education and counseling.

 

3. Dr. Monseau currently serves as an associate professor in the university’s department of emergency medicine.

 

4. Dr. Monseau is an attending physician at the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown W.Va., and WVU Medicine Orthopaedics.

 

5. After earning his medical degree and completing his residency at the WVU School of Medicine, Dr. Monseau underwent fellowship training at the University of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor.
