Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital and West Virginia University Healthcare in Morgantown are the first to go live with the statewide WVHIN HIE, a public/private partnership created in 2006 to create a secure electronic health information system.
According to the report, WVHIN has the ability to access the clinical information of more than 2.1 million patients, including 37 million distinct lab results, 96 million diagnoses and 88 million distinct patient visits over the last six years. WVHIN utilizes an analytics solution to provide longitudinal patent history at the point of care by capturing real-time clinical and administrative data from electronic health records. In addition, the exchange connects with the West Virginia e-Directive Registry, making if the first HIE to integrate end of life choices made by patients, according to the report.
