Peter Wendt, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, retired from the VA Hospital at Fort Harrison in March and has not yet been replaced. The VA hospitals in Salt Lake City and Denver are too busy to take on his former patients, according to the report.

In the meantime, VA Montana is launching a three-year pilot program called Project ARCH (Access Received Closer to Home), which will contract with area medical providers for care not currently offered at VA Montana.
