The UT team of researchers will study how long the bacterium lives in artificial turf system. MRSA causes approximately 19,000 deaths and 300,000 debilitating infections in the U.S. each year, according to the report.
Artificial turf could present a risk to football players because it promotes the spreading of the bacterium.
