University of Massachusetts Medical School Receives $12M for Total Joint Replacement Research

The University of Massachusetts Medical School received a $12 million grant from The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study key factors related to total joint replacement, according to a university news release.

Much of the available research data on total joint replacement focuses on the Medicare population and procedure failures resulting in revision. The University of Massachusetts Medical School research team will seek to measure the outcomes of joint replacement for younger and active patients as well as for older patients.

The study will use a proposed national database that includes more than 33,000 diverse patients from varied settings.
