Here’s what you should know.

1. Ulnar neuritis is caused by repeated bending or straining of the elbow, which causes the ulnar nerve to compress.

2. Ulnar neuritis causes pain in the elbow, numbness, tingling and grip weakness.

3. MOR surgeons Gregory Nicholson, MD, and Mark Cohen, MD, are studying the condition. They particularly study ulnar nerve transposition, a procedure where the affected nerve is decompressed and repositioned in front of the elbow.

4. Among study patients who underwent ulnar nerve transposition, 91 percent returned to play within three to five months and 82 percent returned to compete at the same level or greater.
