For the study, researchers analyzed 66,583 Danish patients who underwent total hip replacement and compared their outcomes to 199,995 patients who did not undergo the procedure.
The researchers found total hip replacement patients faced a nearly 4.7-fold increased risk of ischemic stroke and 4.4-fold increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke in the first two weeks after the surgery. Risk of ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke remained elevated for the first six and 12 weeks, respectively.
