Dr. Burkhart’s lecture, titled “Expanding the Frontiers of Shoulder Surgery,” looks at the role technology has in the future of shoulder surgery. The Kessel lecture is the cornerstone of the conference.
Dr. Burkhart is credited as one of the first orthopedic surgeons to use arthroscopy for treating specific shoulder injuries. Dr. Burkhart earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He has also completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Oregon and the Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic in Eugene, Ore.
