Ernest Tsoules Jr., Esq., senior vice president of Navvis Healthways in Franklin, Tenn., said co-management agreements of orthopedic lines have helped improve the hospital-physician relationship. “Historically, there was no formalized leadership development and physicians had a limited voice in decision-making. [Physicians were] viewed by the hospital as a competitor,” Mr. Tsoules said.

R. David Heekin, MD, head of orthopedic surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Southside in Jacksonville, Fla., said his hospital implemented a co-management agreement for the orthopedic line. “Ever since we implemented co-management in the hospital, about three years ago, things have dramatically changed,” Dr. Heekin said. “No longer are fingers being pointed because we’re working together to make things better.”
