Survey: 88% of Hospitals Implementing Health Information Exchange

Health organizations are using technology to implement programs that help improve quality of patient care, according to an infographic based on a survey called “Healthcare Insights 2012,” by Emdeon, a provider of revenue and payment cycle management and clinical information exchange solutions.

Researchers polled 147 people from hospitals, large practices and small practices for the survey.

Most hospitals, large practices and small practices have shown a commitment to investing in health information exchange. Key findings of the survey are:

Hospitals

•    Sixty-one percent have partially or fully implemented ePrescribing.
•    Seventy-seven percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing automated medication reconciliation offerings.
•    Eighty-five percent have partially or fully implemented electronic medical records.
•    Eighty-eight percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing health information exchange.

Large Practices

•    Fifty-seven percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing automated medication reconciliation offerings.
•    Seventy-four percent have partially or fully implemented electronic medical records.
•    Eighty-two percent have partially or fully implemented ePrescribing.
•    Ninety-four percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing health information exchange.

Small Practices

•    Fifty-five percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing automated medication reconciliation offerings.
•    Sixty-two percent have partially or fully implemented electronic medical records.
•    Sixty-two percent have partially or fully implemented ePrescribing.
•    Seventy-two percent have fully implemented or are in the process of implementing health information exchange.
