Researchers examined volleyball, basketball and handball athletes who played with patellar tendinopathy for three to 12 months. The 62 athletes were randomized into a group that either received shockwave treatments or a placebo treatment.
The athletes in both groups had similar VISA—P scores for one, 12 and 22 weeks after treatment. The only difference occurred one week after the final treatment, when significantly more athletes in the ESWT group reported subjective improvement.
