In a retrospective review of 16 MLB pitchers diagnosed and treated for LD or TM tears between 2002 and 2008, 15 of the pitchers were able to return to the same or higher level of play. The average pitching was approximately 62 days, while the mean throwing time was 35.6 days.
Of the 16 injured athletes, nine experienced season-ending injuries and the average time lost was 82.4 days. Two pitchers had recurrent injuries and prior shoulder and elbow injuries occurred in 12 of the pitchers.
