Five patients donated blood to be processed in the MFT Cascade, Arteriocyte Magellan and Biomet GPS III concentration systems. The platelets, white blood cells, red blood cells and fibrinogen concentrations were analyzed during the study.
Though there was no significant difference in the mean PRP platelet, red blood cell and fibrinogen concentration among the systems, there was a significant difference in platelet capture efficiency. The Cascade and Magellan systems captured the highest efficiency. The Cascade system also generated more concentrated leukocyte-poor PRP when compared with the other two leukocyte-rich PRP produced in the other systems.
