Steadman Hawkins Clinic, Research Foundation Change Names

The Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo., is changing its name to The Steadman Clinic to reflect the clinic’s expanded scope of orthopedic treatment, according to a report in the Vail Daily.

The Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation will also change its name to the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, to highlight the contributions of hip surgeon Marc Philippon, MD, according to the report. The research institute will continue to investigate causes, prevention and treatment of orthopedic disorders.

The decision to change the name of the clinic was to emphasize the fact that the clinic covers the entire spectrum of orthopedic disorders, not just hip and knee surgery, according to Richard Steadman, MD. Dr. Steadman also noted that the relocation of Richard Hawkins, MD, to South Carolina in 2004 as a cause for the name change.
