Sports Medicine Physician Joins Oregon’s Samaritan Health Services

Luis R. Vela, MD, a sports medicine physician, joined Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis, Ore., according to a Democrat Herald report.

Dr. Vela has a professional interest in hand and shoulder surgery, specifically in treating throwing injuries. He also serves as the director of the orthopedic residency program and chairman of the graduate medical education committee at Samaritan.

Dr. Vela earned his medical degree from Nova-Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach, Fla., and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Garden City (Mich.) Hospital. His additional training includes a hand, shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship. He is a member of the American Society of the Hand and the American Osteopathic Association.
