South Carolina Medicare, Medicaid Breach Affects 228K, Former HHS Employee Arrested

Approximately 228,435 Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries where victim to a security breach when former South Carolina HHS employee, Christopher Lykes Jr., allegedly transferred personal information to his email account, according to a CMIO report.

Mr. Lykes has been arrested and charged with five counts of violating the confidentiality of the Medically Indigent Assistance Act and one count of disclosure of confidential information, according to a Greenville Online report.

South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has asked that every state cabinet agency review its computer and information security to prevent another breach.
