Skagit Regional Health using robotic-assisted surgery: 3 insights

Skagit Regional Health in Mount Vernon, Wash., will offer robotic-assisted surgery beginning in September, according to goskagit.com.

Here are three things to know:

1. Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci Surgical System is precise and designed to allow surgeries to stay minimally invasive.

2. Skagit Regional Health purchased the system for $2 million this past May.

3. Joel Dean, MD, who learned to use the system during his fellowship at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, is part of a group of general practice surgeons who are being trained to use the system.
