While federal stimulus legislation is already providing funds for physicians to transfer to EMR, those funds may not cover all expenses and won’t be available until after the systems are up and running.

Sen. Kerry’s bill, the Small Business Health Information Technology Financing Act of 2009, would cover loans for computer hardware, software and other technology for electronic health records and prescriptions.
