Dr. Gitelis is the director of the section of orthopedic oncology and vice chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Rush. His research focuses on prosthetics for children with bone cancer, and he has created a leg implant for children that can be lengthened electronically as they grow.

Ms. Heyer created the endowment to support Dr. Gitelis because of her positive experience working with him and the medical staff at Rush.
