Robert F. Heary, MD (Neurological Institute of New Jersey, Newark). Dr. Heary is the director of the Spine Center and Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at the Neurological Institute of New Jersey. He also serves as a professor of neurosurgery and an attending surgeon at area hospitals.

 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Heary serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques and Neurosurgery. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles focusing on his major areas of research interest: minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal cord injury, spinal cord tumors and spinal deformity. He is a member of several professional societies, including the North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society, and serves as chairman of the Education Committee for the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine & Peripheral Nerves.

 

Dr. Heary earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. His additional training includes a spine fellowship at the department of orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
