Professional pitchers have a lot of UCL surgery: 3 notes from AJSM study

Researchers found the statistical prevalence of UCL reconstruction among MLB pitchers and published their findings the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Here are three key points from their research.

 

1. There were 5,088 professional baseball players were surveyed, from all minor league divisions as well as the majors.

2. Sixteen percent of all pitchers showed a prevalence of UCL reconstruction while 3 percent of non-pitchers reported it.

3. There were 25 percent of major league pitchers and 15 percent of minor league pitchers with a history of UCL.
