Bill sponsor Rep. Jim Marleau (R-Lake Orion) said the bill had a better chance of passing due to the recent healthcare reform law, noting a similar policy at University of Michigan cut lawsuits by 40 percent.
Michigan is one of 15 states without extra legal protections for physicians who want to apologize to a patient or family.
