Combined registrations by EPs for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs dropped in April to 12,228, down 12 percent compared with March numbers. Total registration by EPs in the two programs now stands at 234,570. Eighty-four percent of those are physicians.
Regardless of the drop, more than $5 billion has been paid to eligible professionals and hospitals in incentive payments since the program started, including $1.68 billion for EPs alone. Medicare has paid out $953 million to EPs since May 2011 while Medicaid has paid $736 million since January 2011.
