The new state law also limits the amount of pain pills a physician can prescribe and regulates ownership of pain clinics. As a result, pain clinic owners are submitting applications to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to open pharmacies. So far this year, more than 215 applications have been filed in Florida alone, representing half of the country’s total number of requests to open drug stores, according to the report.
According to the report, businesses must receive a pharmacy license from the state before seeking DEA approval. Meanwhile, the agency said it is committed to stopping the emergence of “rogue” pharmacies.
