A spine surgeon has accused its former employer, Little Rock-based OrthoArkansas, of overcharging patients, among other allegations, Arkansas Business reported Sept. 16. 

Florida's population growth, aging population and tax-friendly environment make it a key market for orthopedic surgeons to practice, but growing competition and consolidation present growing challenges for independent providers in the Sunshine State.

Noncompetes have been a hot topic in healthcare, particularly since the Federal Trade Commission voted to ban noncompete clauses for most U.S. workers in April.

The highest-paid orthopedic surgeon in Dallas earns $953,000, according to Medscape's salary reporter tool, which is much higher than the mean annual wage of $378,250 orthopedic surgeons make according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
