Orthopedic surgeons receive women’s leadership award 

The Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, the Rosemont, Ill.-based philanthropic arm of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, named two orthopedic surgeons recipients of its 2021 women’s leadership awards, the Daily Herald reports.

Barbara Piclet-Legre, MD, received the Career Impact Award, which recognizes women who have made contributions to the field of orthopedic foot and ankle surgery. 

Dr. Piclet-Legre owns two foot and ankle surgery practices in Marseilles, France, and mentors orthopedic surgeons nationally. 

Andrea Veljkovic, MD, received the Career Development Award, which supports the professional aspirations of early- and mid-career female foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons.

Dr. Veljkovic is an associate clinical professor and director of the Adult Foot and Ankle Reconstruction Fellowship at Vancouver-based University of British Columbia. She is an accomplished orthopedic researcher and has published more than 80 scientific papers.
