If Dr. Curd, a South Dakota state representative, wins the GOP nomination against such contenders as Secretary of State Chris Nelson and state Rep. Shantel Krebs, he would face Democrat Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, the incumbent.
“As a doctor, it is my work to heal sick and injured people every day,” Dr. Curd stated. “As a Congressman, I will work to heal a very sick and injured federal government.”
Referring to the current health reform debate, he added: “The Democrats will continue to try and insert government in the personal and private relationships between ourselves and our doctors, dictate what health insurance we must have, and what treatments we can afford.”
Dr. Curd, who is a member of the board and current treasurer for Physician Hospitals of America, has also criticized proposals in Congress to limit ownership of surgery hospitals.
He earned his MD degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, completed his internship at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base in California, completed his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and completed a fellowship in hand and microvascular Surgery at Indiana University and the Indiana Hand Center.
