Orthopedic Surgeon Michael Pryce Announces Candidacy for Ohio U.S. Senate Seat

Michael Pryce, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in Kent, Ohio, has formally announced his candidacy for the Ohio U.S. Senate Seat being vacated by Republican George Voinovich who will retire in 2011, according to a news release by Dr. Pryce’s campaign office.

Dr. Pryce will run as an independent candidate. In his announcement before an assembly of his peers and the Tea Party Movement at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Rootstown Campus, Dr. Pryce described his campaign and vision to “implement a healthcare plan that solves the problems in healthcare from the prospective of a healthcare professional and not a politician” while “making government smaller, reducing taxes and bringing spending under control,” according to the release.

Dr. Pryce has been a surgeon for more than 30 years. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and then received his medical degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Loma Linda (Calif.) University. He recently published the book, Anathama — America’s War on Medicine: A Veteran Doctor Offers a Cure for What Ails America’s Healthcare System.
