Dr. Whalen will run for the seat vacated by Republican Kevin Raye, who he unsuccessfully challenged during the 2010 election as a registered Democrat, according to the report. He earned his medical degree at the UMDNJ—New Jersey Medical School in Newark and completed his residencies at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and UMDNJ Hospital.
His additional training includes a fellowship in hand surgery at Institute De La Main in Paris.
