The guideline is an update to a statement released in 2005 on concussions, which did not recommend keeping all athletes from play if a concussion is suspected. Additional updates to the statement include:
• Physicians use standardize concussion assessment tools
• A preseason emergency medical action plan developed during the preseason
• Assembly of a concussion management team
• Neuropsychological testing should be used along with other concussion assessment tools
• Physicians should know state laws regarding concussions
