Orthopedic & Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Michael Lewis of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute

In addition to his work as an orthopedic surgeon, Michael Lewis, MD, is a published author and photographer, whose latest book Seeing More Colors donates profits to the Himalayan Cataract Project. His images have been published in several professional books and magazines, and he has produced a one-man show of his work in a Chicago-area gallery, which was later translated into the publication of his book One World.

During his medical career, Dr. Lewis has been chief of staff at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Chicago and an orthopedic consultant for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Wolves hockey team. He is a member of several professional organizations, including American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Association of Professional Team Physicians.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Lewis has participated in research and authored articles that appeared in professional journals such as The Journal of Clinical Investigation and Radiology. His published research focused on areas such as anesthesia for outpatient knee arthroscopy and postoperative hip infections. Prior to his work in Illinois, Dr. Lewis served at the U.S. Air Force Hospital RAF Lakenheath in England as an orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Lewis earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Medical Center, affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
