Dr. Albert was chosen for his leadership position with the hospital because of his “standing as a top clinician, researcher and teacher,” and his “enthusiasm, vision and demonstrated leadership capabilities,” according to a Jefferson News report.
Dr. Albert’s clinical research focuses on cervical and reconstructive surgery. He has spent time investigating stem cell regeneration of the disc and comparison between the clinical outcomes of lumbar spine patients. He has authored more than 200 papers, 80 book chapters and five books on spine surgery. Dr. Albert has also served on the editorial boards for Spine, the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques and The Spine Journal.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Albert is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society and the American Orthopaedic Association. He serves as president of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
Dr. Albert earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He also completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Minnesota Spine Center in Minneapolis.
