In the past, Dr. Walker has served as chief of staff and chairman of the department of surgery at the Scripps Green Hospital. He has also served as team physician for the San Diego Padres. His clinical focus includes treatment for hip and knee arthritis and total joint replacement. He is also interested in minimally invasive total hip and knee replacements, computer navigation and prevention of thromboembolic disease after orthopedic surgery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Walker serves as the co-director of the lower extremity reconstruction fellowship at the Scripps Clinic and conducts research in total hip and knee replacements. He specifically focuses on total hip and knee replacement outcomes, biomechanics and thromboembolic disease prevention after those procedures.
During his career, Dr. Walker has earned several recognitions, including the Bone and Joint Surgeons’ Nicolas Adry Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. He has also earned the American Medical Association’s Physician Recognition Award in Continuing Medical Education and the Scripps Health Values in Leadership Award. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Western Orthopedic Association, for which he has served as president.
Dr. Walker earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford University Hospital in California.
