This past year, the SCOLISCORE Prognostic AIS Test was made available at Baylor Scoliosis Center. SCOLISCORE is a saliva test that helps physicians determine whether a child with mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is likely to develop a debilitating curvature of the spine.

“Until recently, all scoliosis patients were monitored the same way because there was no clinically reliable test available to assist doctors in identifying low risk patients,” Dr. Hostin said in a Baylor Health Care Systems news release. “This test, used in conjunction with other diagnostic information available when initially diagnosed, could potentially reduce the number of x-rays and office visits required and ease patients and parents from the uncertainty of whether or not their scoliosis will progress.”

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Hostin has given presentations on several spine surgery topics, including the outcomes of pedicle subtraction osteotomies for fixed saggital imbalance and revision screw strategies for cervical spine fixation. Dr. Hostin is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and the Texas Orthopaedic Association.

Dr. Hostin earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City and completed his residency at the University of California at Berkeley. His additional training includes a fellowship in adult and pediatric spine surgery at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis.
