Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Richard Gross of the Medical University of South Carolina

Richard Gross, MD, is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and professor at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is a leader in his field and has more than 100 articles and presentations to his credit. He also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and on the leadership development committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Gross was selected for the 2008 American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Orthopaedics Distinguished Service Award, which is given to the physician who has contributed most to excellence in patient care, research and teaching. He is also a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Orthopaedics Overseas and the Charleston County Medical Society, for which he served as president.

During his career, Dr. Gross has traveled overseas to practice orthopedics on patients from Pakistan, Vietnam, India and Romania. He also served in the U.S. Army and chief of orthopedics at Moncrief Army Hospitals in Ft. Jackson, S.C. In the past, he has held academic appointments at the University of New Mexico, University of Oklahoma, Harvard University and the University of Florida.

Dr. Gross earned his medical degree from Duke University and completed his residency at the William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. His additional training includes orthopedic surgery training at Carrie Tingley Hospital in Truth or Consequence, N.M.
