In 2007, Dr. Press was named the first chair of RIC’s musculoskeletal rehabilitation program and charged with building and enhancing research operations to apply evidence-based treatments and interventions for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. He was bestowed the honor by David Logan, the chair’s contributor and namesake and former patient of Dr. Press.
“I know under Dr. Press’ leadership that the future is going to be bright for his patients,” said Mr. Logan in an RIC news release.
Dr. Press has been an attending physician at RIC for more than two decades and is the founder and former director of the sports rehabilitation program. Additionally, Dr. Press was instrumental in opening the center for spine, sports and occupational rehabilitation at RIC.
“I am committed to building a clinical research structure that builds on RIC’s history of innovative musculoskeletal rehabilitation care and continues to develop breakthroughs that enable people to get back to enjoying their lives and make a real difference,” said Dr. Press in the RIC release. He serves as assistant professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University in Chicago.
In addition to his practice responsibilities, Dr. Press has served in leadership positions in several professional organizations, including past president of the North American Spine Society. He is also past president of The Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation. He is the current president of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
During his career, Dr. Press has been recognized as a top physician in Chicago by Chicago Magazine and earned several researcher awards. He is currently researching solutions for lower back pain.
Dr. Press earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed his internship and residency at Northwestern University Medical School and RIC in Chicago.
