In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Parvizi serves as a professor of orthopedic surgery and vice chairman of research at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He is currently involved in basic science research related to Smart Self-Protective Implants that resist infection. He has lectured extensively on hip and knee surgery topics.
Dr. Parvizi belongs to several orthopedic societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Orthopedic Research Society and the Musculoskeletal Infection Society. He also studied abroad, during which time he became a member of organizations such as the British Orthopedic Association and a fellow with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
During his career, Dr. Parvizi has gone overseas to offer his time and expertise in orthopedic surgery as a health volunteer. He also holds patents related to advanced biomaterials and methods of attaching therapeutic agents as well as methods and devices for detecting periprosthetic joint infection. Dr. Parvizi has also published extensively in journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
Dr. Parvizi earned his medical degree from the University of Sheffield School of Medicine in the United Kingdom and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Mayo Clinic. His additional training includes a fellowship in orthopedic surgery at the University of Berne in Switzerland. Dr. Parvizi also holds a master’s degree in molecular biology from Mayo and has training in cardiovascular surgery from the University of Sheffield.
