Dr. Fronek has a clinical interest in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, including meniscus and cartilage injuries, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and laser therman surgery in orthopedics. He has been called upon to share his expertise in arthroscopic surgery with ESPN, where he discussed the advantages of the minimally invasive procedures.
“The diagnostic application of the arthroscope has tremendous value in that it cuts down on the invasiveness and increases the accuracy of the operation, also decreasing the recovery time,” said Dr. Fronek in the article. “In addition, because the procedure is done on an outpatient basis, it benefits the entire healthcare industry. Patients no longer spend nights in the hospital and it is less expensive for the entire community.”
In addition to his practice, Dr. Fronek conducts research into several areas of sports medicine. His particular research interests include arthroscopic treatment of the clenoid labrum and other shoulder problems. He serves as the chairman of the Ambulatory Care Committee at Pomerado Hospital in Poway, Calif., and is a member of several committees at Scripps Green Hospitals and Scripps Clinic. He also serves as the co-director of the San Diego Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy Fellowship.
Dr. Fronek is a fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Association of Major League Baseball Team Physicians. He is also a member of the California State Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Fronek earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester (Md.). School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
