During his career, Dr. Phillips has served as an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals and in leadership positions at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He currently serves on the editorial board of Orthopedic Quarterly and is a member of the Chicago Hand Society.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Phillips has conducted research and published articles on various topics, including the ulnar flexor tendon synovial sheath anatomy and the biomechanical changes of cadaveric finger flexion. He has published in the Journal of Hand Surgery and the Scandinavian Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgery. He has earned several awards for his research, including recognition from the American Association for Hand Surgery and the Chicago Surgical Society.
Dr. Phillips was also awarding the Zimmer Traveling Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Mid-American Orthoapedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and previously served as a health volunteer overseas in South Africa and the Dominican Republic. He has given several lectures around the country and around the world on his areas of expertise.
Dr. Phillips earned his medical degree at the University of Witwatersand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. He completed a second residency at The University of Chicago Hospitals and a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at The Curtis National Hand Center/Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.
