Omega Laboratories First to Receive FDA Clearance for Extended Opiates Test

Omega Laboratories is the first and only laboratory to receive 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its Extended Opiates Test that can detect the use of oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine and heroin through human hair analysis, according to a news release.

Extended opiate testing using hair samples is becoming more popular including at companies regulated by Federal Guidelines. These companies, which often have safety-sensitive positions, such as motor carriers, pipeline/energy, nuclear power and railroads, conduct expanded drug testing programs under company authority. The extended testing program is more accurate than urine based testing programs.
