Dr. Wenstrup is now favored to win the election against the democratic candidate in November. He previously entered politics as a contender in the 2009 Cincinnati mayoral race, where he lost but began building a base of support.
During his career, Dr. Wenstrup has served in the Army Reserves and a medic in Iraq. He was chief of surgery at Abu Ghraib prison hospital and received a Bronze Star for his service.
