One audit found that the Department of Health made $53 million in improper payments for patients who had been incorrectly assigned two Medicaid identification numbers. An additional $20.3 million in improper payments was made due to an incorrect reimbursement rate entered into the state’s computers, according to the report.
Mr. DiNapoli’s audits have found $400 million in improper payments made by the state Medicaid system, including services for home care for deceased patients and transportation services not covered by the program, according to the report.
The recent audits also found 10 hospitals that billed for discharging patients when they had only transferred them to another hospital.
