NHL Announces New Concussion Protocol

A new NHL protocol requires patients showing signs of a concussion to be examined by a physician in a room away from the ice, according to a New York Times report.

Commissioner Gary Bettman said the NHL instituted the new protocol to ensure players are “evaluated by a team physician under the SCAT2 [sport concussion assessment tool 2] procedures,” according to the report.

The players union helped develop the protocol.
