New ONC Program to Encourage Development, Adoption of HIE Governance Policies

Using a new program, ONC is fostering collaboration with groups involved in governance of health information exchange to encourage the continued development and adoption of policies, interoperability requirements and business practices.

The Exemplar Health Information Exchange Governance Entities Program Funding Opportunity was launched in late December. This program will help increase the ease of electronic HIE, reduce implementation costs and ensure the privacy and security of data being exchanged, according to the report. The Exemplar HIE Governances Entities Program is just one of many activities for governance of nationwide HIE that ONC is engaged in.
