New Jersey Health Foundation Endowment to Honor Orthopedist Dr. Fred Behrens

The New Jersey Health Foundation announced that it has received a $2 million endowment to establish a chair in honor of orthopedist Fred Behrens, MD, in the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey — New Jersey Medical School in Newark.

The foundation received $2 million from Dr. h.c.mult. Hansjoerg Wyss, former chair of the Synthes Corporation in West Chester, Pa. Through its matching program, the foundation will provide a 20 percent match — $400,000 — to the gift. An anonymous donor gave an additional $100,000, bringing the total endowment to $2.5 million.

The Fred F. Behrens, M.D. Endowed Chair in Orthopaedic Trauma Education will support residents training in orthopedic trauma.
