The study divided 74 hips in 69 patients into an asymptomatic group, symptomatic group and unexplained pain group. Using MRI, the volume of synovitis was measured in each patient.
The study found synovitis in:
• 78 percent of hips with unexplained pain
• 75 percent of hips in the symptomatic group
• 68 percent of hips in the asymptomatic group
