Yaszemski Michael J 11JUMichael J. Yaszemski, MD (Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.). Dr. Yaszemski is the co-chair of the clinical trails oversight group at Mayo Clinic and on the editorial board for the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a spine surgeon at Mayo Clinic and has a Tissue Engineering and biomaterials Laboratory to perform polymer synthesis and characterization and scaffold fabrication using injectable techniques and solid freeform fabrication techniques.

 

Dr. Yaszemski’s research includes culturing cell-polymer constructs, delivery kinetics of bioactive molecules from microparticples and microparticle-scaffold combinations as well as musculoskeletal sarcoma biology. He received the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons William W. Tipton Jr., MD., Leadership Award and Joint Meritorious Service metal from the United States armed forces last year.

 

Dr. Yaszemski earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center, United States Air Force. His additional training includes a spine surgery fellowship at the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory and department of orthopedic surgery at Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
